With E3 only a few days away, those wonderful chaps at GameTrailersTV and Spike have produced a rather sexy hour long E3 special that airs tonight at 11P.M. on Spike TV.
The show was shot on location last week in downtown LA and has 15 world exclusive premieres and some ultra special guests. The show will also feature some very smart and knowledgeable experts who will talk about some of the big rumored announcements set to break at E3.
These experts include Shane Satterfield, who is the glorious leader of gametrailers.com and the host of Invisible Walls, Tom Russo, who spent many a year as the top editorial maguffin at G4TV...... and me.
Now I am not to sure what I actually said during filming, because about half an hour before we were due to record my head came into contact with a rather heavy door which left me a little more dazed and confusing than usual. In fact, if you look carefully above my right eyebrow you will see a very artfully concealed vertical scar that had only just stopped pumping blood a few mins before!
So check out the show, hope you enjoy and if you don't like what I have to say well.... good for you!

I like E3
The Electronic Entertainment Expo - E3 - is only a week or so away and all my friends and colleauges in the industry are working their butts off getting ready to unveil new titles or map out plans for coverage. Me? I have made a bunch of appointments, I am attending two of the big three press conferences (Sony, for the 2nd year running would not even respond to my numerous email requests to attend.)
In fact, since the E3 show sprung out of CES in the 90's I have only missed the show twice, those two being the first E3 ever in Atlanta, and then the 2007 debacle in Santa Monica (which was just after I left my PR job at Vivendi and I needed a break)
All the other E3's have brought different experiences and adventures, and here are a few I can remember....
1997 - Atlanta - Getting hit on by a cute girl in the hottub of my Atlanta hotel, only to find that said cute girl was in fact a 'Lady of the night' when she told me that we could go to my room for $300!
2000 - Los Angeles - I had just been hired by Red Storm a few days before the show, and we stayed at the tres swank Ritz Carlton in Marina Del Rey. That year we gave out little rubber balls with the RSE logo on them that lit up when you bounced them. Demand for these 'blinky balls' was insane, and as I was in charge of them, I managed to strike some pretty sweet deals with other exhibitors, including a whole bunch of Fox DVDs, a cool Aliens mug and free lunch three days running:) Another personal high point was after being driven nuts by the skateboarders and loud music coming from the next booth, I lobbed a ball at one of them and caught him right on the back of his helmet. Immature? Very. Wrong? Totally. Fun? Hell yes!
2005 - Los Angeles - This was the E3 that we unveiled F.E.A.R. far and wide, and I have to say it was one of the most satisfying E3's ever on a professional level, thanks to the killer demo that the dev team put together. That year we won 'Best Action Game of E3', and I was a happy camper!
I guess the main reason I love the show is that I get to see and hang with most of the great people I have worked with over the years. Seeing some of the guys and gals from 1UP, IGN, PC Gamer etc and hopefully getting to have a beer with them makes this event the high point of my work year.
I am also glad that the 'real E3' is back this year, not cut down, lots of exhibitors and events and products to see. The US games industry needs a flagship show and after the neutering of the last few years, here is hoping that E3 2k9 is a return to form!

Terminator Salvation PC Recalled
So if you were unfortunate enough to buy the steaming pile of shit that is 'Terminator Salvation' on 360 or PS3 then you have my deepest sympathy. However if you bought the PC version, then there may be a ray of dare I say it... salvation!
This was posted on the Terminator Salvation game site yesterday:
'Unfortunately a defect occurred during replication of the PC version of Terminator Salvation, which does not allow end users to install the game. The downloadable online PC versions, Xbox 360, PS3, are not affected and function properly. We have recalled all PC copies of Terminator Salvation from retail in North America and are currently in the process of replicating new copies. The new copies will be on store shelves in a few days. A replacement plan for all end users that purchased the defective units is currently being set up. Details to get a replacement copy will be announced shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused the end users that purchased the defective copy.'
So if ya bought it, send it back and demand a refund. The game is abysmal and no one in their right mind should own it.

The Annoyed Gamer pilot that never made it
As some of you may know, I had a webshow last year called 'Annoyed Gamer' on LiveVideo.com. (some of the shows are posted in the archives here)
After that show went kapoop, I spoke to a couple of different companies about bringing the show back in various forms. In fact I am still talking to a couple of different companies about bringing it back!
Just posted to YouTube is one of the pilot episodes we filmed from the launch of Gears of War 2. I post it here for your amusement.
If you like it, please rate it and forward it around. I know the content is old, but if the clip does well, then who knows, AG might be back broadcasting soon!
Cheers!
Marcus

Movies that might have been good games - Part 1
Having spent this week playing X-Men Origins: Wolverine and really enjoying it (bugs aside of course), it got me thinking about other movies that could have made bloody good games. Hell, some of them might even have been better than the movie that spawned them, as in the case of Wolverine!
Please note that I am not talking about the tech aspects of games such as engines etc, just concepts that I think would be cool games to experience. Also, this is going to be an ongoing series that I will be updating whenever inspiration strikes. (So given my shite track record at updating, don't hold your breath!)
I am Legend.
Loved the graphic novel, love the concept of one man trying to survive in a infected city. Now the movie flat out sucked. it was boring, unimaginative and they changed the story too much to suit having Will Smith as the star.
I would love to see this as a massive 3rd person sandbox game set in Los Angeles (as the book is). The chance to explore the city and it's suburbs, enter stores to stock up on food, weapons etc and just try to survive. Yes there could be quests and objectives, but the game would be sandbox and would let you play the way you want.
Imagine being able to take abandoned cars to drive around the city, ones that would become useless unless you find a steady supply of fuel. The player would have to locate libraries and find books that would teach new skills and improve existing ones.
These skills could be used to upgrade weapons, repair vehicles and improve your home base. Don't like your initial base? Simply find another building more suited to your needs and claim it after clearing out any existing guests of course. The bigger and cooler the building would also draw more zombie attention and would need more maintaining, so you would have to weigh those options up while looking for a good pad.
I guess the game would be a cross between GTA 4 and Fallout 3, and given the success of those two franchises, that might not be a bad thing!

Fable 2 See the Future
The 2nd DLC pack for Fable 2 hits tomorrow via XBox Live, costing 560 MS points.
I haven't played it yet, even though the code has been in my inbox for a few days, guess I am still smarting from the disappointment of 'Knothole Island' which kind of stunk up the joint with it's repetitive quests and over reliance on playing whack-an-orb.
Here's hoping this new one is better. I will play it tonight after recording Invisible Walls 57 and post my review tomorrow.
