FFXIV will ship globally at the same time
Server setup will be identical to FFXI.
Square hope that FFXIV will run alongside FFXI with the communities playing both.
They wanted to make the best Final Fantasy game possible, and felt that the MMO format would make that possible.

I really wonder how Square is gonna pull off running both XI and XIV.. I use to play XI and I know it has a large community, not as large as WoW of course but to run it alongside.. Wow.. *crosses fingers for Square*
Did they say anything about subscription fees etc for XIV? I'm assuming its too early for that.

It's kind of funny how Sony keeps trying to keep FF games on their platform, but MS keeps stealing it from them. Poor Sony!
What gets me is how they think people will actually stay on FF11 after they've said they won't develop for it anymore, and 14 is basically taking 11 and slapping the coat of WoW paint onto it. This strikes me as a horrible business decision, as by using the same races and nothing else kind of slaps the fans in the face, saying the old world wasn't worth saving, but they can't be assed to use a better environment either like the Ivalice setting/races.

I think you're jumping to conclusions a bit too early, mate.
Firt of all, they never said they'd stop supporting FF11... I believe I read in an interview that they'd support it as long as people are playing. we can only assume that means new content as well (maybe no new expansions but they'll probably be working on it. they wouldn't say something like that otherwise)
I also think it's a bit too early to say FF XIV will be a WoW-ified FF XI. I doubt Square would pull that off even if they could. With the new growth, job and combat systems, I doubt it'll be all that similar to WoW... They've only said that they looked at WoW, AoC and WAR (mostly to add a more quest-based and solo content, is how I interpreted that)a bit, but they are mostly looking at the mistakes they made in FF XI and what the fans would like to see improved or added. That's almost literally what they said in the interview.
I also believe they haven't stated that they'll use the same races and nothing else. There's still room for other races to be added. Besides, the current races will not return exactly as they were in FF XI. Still, I have to say it's a bit of a dissapointment to me too. But then again, there was nothing wrong with FF XI's original classes. I like me some tarutaru. :)
